Getting Ready for the Big Day

The wedding party got ready for their big day at their venue, the Pine Crest Weddings and Event Center. Andrew and his groomsmen enjoyed a bachelor’s lounge with a billiards table while changing into their wedding day attire.

The men wore matching dark teal vests over white button down shirts, purple bow ties, dark wash denim pants, and black shoes. Andrew also wore a grey jacket to set himself apart from his entourage, which encompassed his two brothers and three of his good friends.

As for the bride, Violet’s sisters and mother worked together on Violet’s hair and makeup for her bridal look. Having already arranged the bouquets for the wedding, Violet’s mother pulled from the remaining flowers to adorn her daughter’s hair.

Violet’s bridesmaids had dresses in shades of purple, lilac and pink, pulling inspiration from Rapunzel’s dress in Disney’s animated film “Tangled”. The bridesmaids included Violet and Andrew’s sisters, and the Maid of Honor was Violet’s closest friend.

Chapel Ceremony

Andrew’s groomsmen helped usher guests to their seats within the venue’s on-site Wedding Chapel. Once the ceremony began, the groomsmen accompanied family members down the aisle and joined Andrew at the alter. The bridesmaids followed, then the Maid of Honor, and finally a ring bearer holding a sign that read “Here comes your girl”.

With heads bowed in prayer, a bride is standing at the front of a church with an older man with guests also in prayer behind them in the pews.

Shortly after the ring bearer, Violet was escorted down the aisle by her father. Upon reaching the front, Andrew’s father ask everyone in attendance to join him in a prayer before the wedding ceremony began. Violet’s father offered her hand to Andrew before joining them at the alter as their officiant.

Violet and Andrew’s wedding ceremony included two special events. The first was a “unity sand pouring” creating a unified and inseparable mixture as a visual symbol of their joining lives. And the second event was taking communion together, symbolizing their commitment to God and each other as they begin their marriage.

Violet’s father led the couple through their vows and the exchanging of the rings. Last but not least, he pronounced them husband and wife! After sharing a well-awaited first kiss as a married couple, Violet and Andrew made their way back down the aisle to the standing applause of close friends and family.

Golden Hour Photos

With the Wedding Chapel ceremony now complete, it was time for family portraits. Violet and Andrew captured amazing photos in front of the chapel with the help of the Maid of Honor’s younger sister, an apprentice photographer gifting her skills to the newlyweds.

Near the Event Center is a secret hideaway that appears to have jumped from the pages of a storybook. It was here Violet and Andrew took a few moments to themselves, sharing in a passion kiss or two under the trees, before joining the party inside.

Reception at the Event Center

The Event Center served as the dinner reception location and its wood floors were perfect for dancing long into the evening. As the song “At Last I See The Light” began to play, Violet and Andrew took to the floor for their first dance. Next, Violet shared a dance with her father and Andrew led his mother through a special dance as well.

After the taco bar dinner, it was time for the cake cutting ceremony. Violet’s mother decorated the cheesecakes with pink flowers, keeping with the wedding theme. Upon slicing into the dessert, Violet wasted little time before playfully dotting Andrew’s nose with frosting. Andrew returned the favor with some cake added to Violet’s chin, and both the newlyweds had a good laugh.

Planning + Logistics: Tangled Colorado Wedding

“Tangled” Wedding Theme

The wedding theme was loosely inspired by Disney’s “Tangled”, one of Violet’s favorite movies. It had also become a running joke while Andrew and Violet were dating for him to call her Rapunzel.

With Rapunzel’s dress from the movie in mind, the bridesmaids dresses varied in color from soft pinks to lilacs. Violet had flowers woven into her hair by her mom, as her sister and friend assisted with Violet’s makeup. The groomsmen wore vests of deep teal, pulling inspiration from the movie’s male main character Flynn Rider. The first dance song was also from “Tangled”.

Dietary Restrictions? Solution: Taco Bar

With lots of dietary restrictions to respect, deciding on a wedding caterer took some extra thought and consideration. The venue had some fantastic recommendations and the couple ultimately decided upon a taco bar caterer. This provided many different entree options and allowed guests to choose their meats, tortillas and toppings as needed.

DIY Wedding Dress Alterations

Andrew proposed to Violet while celebrating the holidays with her family in North Carolina at the end of 2019. As we all remember, the beginning of 2020 presented the world with many challenges and that was no different for this newly engaged couple.

With their wedding date secured for late spring of 2020, Violet needed to shop for a wedding dress during lockdown. Luckily she was able to order a dress online and it arrived in time for her to make some small but important alterations. Having sewn her own prom dress in high school, Violet was no stranger to a sewing machine and got everything done just in time for their big day!

HONEST Q+A WITH THE NEWLYWEDS

Q:  What was the most exciting extra part of your wedding day beyond saying “I Do”?

A:  [Violet] My favorite part was the party afterwards. I don’t like being the center of attention, so I had a lot more fun once everyone started getting out on the dance floor.

Q:  What was the biggest surprise or unexpected event that happened the day of your wedding?

A:  [Violet] It went pretty much exactly as planned (probably because we had such a simple plan and weren’t too picky). The biggest unexpected thing was probably when I couldn’t get my husband’s ring on during the ceremony. He ended up having to do it himself.

Q:  Was there anything that you thought would be a big deal that turned out to be minimal?

A:  [Violet] Definitely COVID. I was concerned it was going to totally change our wedding plans, but in the end the only difference was that the food servers wore masks, the tables seated 6 instead of 8, and the pews were an extra foot or so apart.

Q:  What was the most troublesome part of planning your wedding day?

A:  [Violet] Figuring out the balance of respecting family while also being our own couple and doing things how we wanted to. In the end it all worked out really well, but things were a little rocky in the beginning stages of planning.

Q:  What advice would you give a new couple approaching their own wedding day?

A:  [Violet] Don’t stress about having every detail perfect. In the end you’ll be married no matter how the wedding goes, and you want to be able to enjoy it without worrying about everything. If you can delegate small decisions, that will take a lot of pressure off of you as well.
