Your garden is bursting with florals and budding life. Time to share this exciting display with friends by hosting a spring garden party. Not sure what to prepare or how to host guests outside? This blog post will help answer many of your garden party hosting questions.

The rains have provided for your garden, and as the sun starts to shine your flowers begin blossoming for the first time. Now is the perfect opportunity to host a spring garden party! Who needs additional decorations when you have such beautiful natural scenery to enjoy. Below are my tips for helping host the perfect spring garden party.

A Little Something Sweet

Let’s begin with dessert since we are talking about a party afterall! Your guests will expect a little something sweet towards the end of their meal, but I prefer to mix my sweet and savory offerings on occasions such as a garden party. Here are great ideas for sweet treats you can easily make from home:

  • Mini Blackberry Cheesecakes from The Soccer Mom Blog.
  • Apple Tart with Frangipane from Foodess Blog.
  • Vanilla Cupcakes with Lemon Marshmallow Frosting from Liv’s Little Muffins Blog.
  • Zucchini Cake with Currants from Sustain My Cooking Habit Blog.
  • Blueberry Scones from The Forked Spoon Blog.
  • Savoiardi (Ladyfingers) from Little Nonni Blog.
Salmon toasts with creme, dill and capers on top a white plate.
Burrata bruschetta on toasts sitting on a white rectangle plate.
Potato chips with creme friache and caviar atop each chip neatly displayed on a white plate.

A Little Something Savory

Savory bites are some of my favorite things in the entire world. I love being able to try a bit of everything offered, versus signing up for one big meal. Also called hors d’oeuvres or tapas, this style of food is prepared with the idea that a guest could finish it in just one or two bites. Here are great ideas for savory appetizers for your next garden party:

  • Classic Deviled Eggs from The Cooking Foodie Blog.
  • Smoked Salmon Crostini from The Jam Jar Kitchen Blog.
  • Caviar Creme Fraiche Potato Chips from Rebecca Taig Blog.
  • Caprese Toast from Practically Homemade Blog.
  • Burrata Bruschetta from Little Nonni Blog.
  • Bruschetta with Marinated Tomatoes from Cooking with Wine Blog.
  • Vietnamese Shrimp Toast from Savory Sweet Spoon Blog.
  • Mini Quiche from Little Sunny Kitchen Blog.
  • Arancini from Emily Leary Blog.
  • Tortellini Caprese Skewers from The Feathered Nester Blog.
  • Prosciutto Wrapped Stuffed Dates from The Jam Jar Kitchen Blog.
  • Charcuterie Cups from Glenda Embree Blog.

Garden Party Sandwiches & Salads

Small bites and sweets are fantastic, but occasionally you will need to provide your garden party guests some food with substance. Sandwiches and salads are great for outdoor gatherings in spring. These foods can help celebrate all the fresh new growth happening around you. Here are great ideas for garden party sandwiches and salads:

  • Traditional Cucumber Sandwiches from Binky’s Culinary Carnival Blog.
  • Italian Pinwheels from The Soccer Mom Blog.
  • Crack Chicken Pinwheels from The Cookin’ Chicks Blog.
  • Lettuce Wraps with Crispy Pork from Foodess Blog.
  • Cucumber Salad from Munchy Goddess Blog.
  • Lemon Green Pea Salad from Quiche My Grits Blog.
  • Orzo Salad with Pesto from Lauren From Scratch Blog.
  • Panzanella Bread Salad with Cherry Tomatoes from Sungrown Kitchen Blog.
  • Chili Lime Quinoa Salad with Kale & Roasted Chickpeas from Beet of the Wild Blog.
  • Prawn Salad from A Tasty Kitchen Blog.
  • California Chicken Salad from The Sunshine Pantry Blog.
  • Creamy Potato Salad with Herbs from Cucina by Elena Blog.
  • Vegan Three Bean Salad from Joyful Balance Blog.

Cucumber salad with dill inside a clear glass bowl next to a striped tea towel and wooden spoon.
Pea salad with bacon and lemon sitting inside a white stoneware bowl.

Lovely Libations

Guests must always be offered a beverage while enjoying their time at your garden party. Iced teas or Homemade Lemonade, this one is from Strength & Sunshine Blog, are standard go-to options seen at most events. Add a little something extra for your guests with a blended beverage, like the Strawberry Rosé Shake from Sweet & Savory Morsels Blog. (note: contains alcohol, however sub red juice to make it safe for all ages!)

Pink blended beverage in a mason jar topped with strawberries and whipped cream with a pink and white stripped straw.

Spring Garden Party Set-Up & Decor

Flowers On Display

Since your garden and beautiful grounds are the focus, there is little need to add additional decor! If you desire to dress up your space a bit more, consider hanging pennant flags or adding fresh flower arrangements to tables.

Food buffet with wooden natural edge rounds used as platters.

Food Presentation

Height is key here! Whenever displaying foods, having platters at varying heights will add interest to your buffet. It also makes it easier to reach items further back on a table when they are raised up. Consider using large glass apothecary jars for your salads and food nets atop your serving platters to keep any pests off your vittles.

Hand dropping a slice of cucumber into a water dispenser.
Beverage dispensers with fruit punch and peach juice atop a bright pink table displaying treats.

Beverage dispensers filled with infused water, iced tea, lemonade, etc. allow guests to refill their glasses with ease. Again, having height for your dispensers is a goal to strive for!

Conversational Seating Arrangements

You have called this gathering to enjoy each other’s company while also basking in your surroundings. So when it comes to seating arrangements, keep it easy to have a conversation but have fun with it! Set up a luxury picnic with floor cushions or use outdoor lounge furniture in place of traditional tables and chairs. Although tables and chairs do make eating a lot easier. Add a cute umbrella if shade is not naturally available.

Picnic dining set-up using wood pallets and square cushions.

Table setting with brown wicker charger plates, cloth napkins, lace table runners, and flower centerpieces atop wood tables lined with wood cross-back chairs.

Conclusion

I hope there is something you were able to take away from Host To Host At Home – Spring Garden Party. Remember to Pin this post for when you are ready for next steps.

I really want to host a get-together for my girlfriends, but my apartment is tiny! Love these ideas, this is the perfect inspiration. I don’t have cute floor cushions but maybe I could make it more picnic-y with a pretty quilt.
