Baby Shower Games

Baby showers are all about celebrating the mama-to-be (or parents-to-be!) and surrounding them with love. Beyond the food, gifts, and conversation, baby shower games are a fun way to break the ice and bring guests together for a little extra laughter and entertainment!

Quad of images with the upper left image of diapers with messages written on them in permanent marker, upper right image of a blonde woman in a blue dress holding a poster on a white countertop that reads "baby smith", bottom right image of some kids socks in brown and tan colors with a ruffle on the top, and bottom left image of a pregnant woman hangin white baby onesies on an outdoor clothesline; overlay text reading "baby shower ideas games: race, just for fun, arts & crafts".

Baby shower games are a fun, low-pressure way to get guests involved and help break the ice—especially for those who may not know each other. The host should plan on providing small prizes for game winners. Small prizes could include candles, wine, gift cards, or gourmet treats.

My Favorite Baby Shower Games

*Note: Games marked with an asterisk (*) have no winner and don’t require giving a prize.

– Don’t Say Baby: To start, each guest receives a token, like a clothespin or cloth diaper pin. Each time a guest says “baby,” anyone who hears it can take their token(s). They must forfeit all their collected tokens. You can get back in the game by catching someone else. The person with the most tokens at the end wins.

– Diaper Raffle: Guests who bring diapers or wipes are entered into a prize drawing. Bring various sizes, not just newborn! (Tip: Mention this game in your invitations.)

– Baby Brain Memory Game: Show guests a tray of baby-related items for 10 seconds. Nest, hide the tray and have everyone write down what they remember. The guest who lists the most correct items wins. Bonus: the items on the tray can double as a gift for the parents-to-be!

– *Baby Face: Create a display with a blank baby face in the center and two armholes cut near the bottom. Guests craft facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, etc.) from paper. Next, take turns standing behind the board and reaching through the holes to assemble a face—without seeing what they’re doing! Each participant has 30 seconds to complete their masterpiece. This can be just for fun.* Want a winner? Capture the funny results in photos and have the guest of honor pick the champ.

– Baby Emoji Pictionary: A list of baby-related words or phrases is represented using only emojis. The person with the most completed within the time limit wins. (Example: 👶☔ = baby shower)

– Guess The Bump: Guests cut a piece of string to match what they think is the circumference of the mom-to-be’s belly. After everyone guesses, she measures her belly and compares it to each string. The closest match wins. (Measuring Tape Ribbon – Amazon Link)

Arts & Crafts Baby Shower Games

– *Decorate Onesies: This can be simple with guests decorating a plain baby onesie with a permanent marker. Or it can be more in-depth with stencils, stamps, paints, and Cricut iron-on vinyl designs.

– *Late Night Diapers: Using permanent marker, guests write a note to the parent(s)-to-be on the diaper. As a result, parent(s) can enjoy an affirmation or little laugh from your message during “late night diaper” changes.

Diapers scattered on a linen table cloth with messages written on one side, two permanent markers lay next to a stack of diapers towards the back.

– *Children’s Book Game: This can be played two ways. 1. Each guest wraps a children’s book with wrapping paper that hints to what the book is about. The parent(s)-to-be guess what the book is based on the wrapping paper hint. (Example: moon wrapping paper + a ribbon with “Z’s” on it = Goodnight Moon) 2. Each guest brings an unwrapped children’s book, preferably one of the guest’s favorites. The parent(s)-to-be guess who gifted that book. (Tip: Mention this game in your invitations.)

*Note: Games marked with an asterisk (*) have no winner and don’t require giving a prize.

Pen & Paper Baby Shower Games

– Baby Word Scramble: Common baby related words are scrambled in a list. The person who unscrambles the most within the time limit wins. (Example: webronn = newborn)

– Baby Word Search: A grid of common baby related words are hidden amongst other random letters. The person who finds the most words within the time limit wins.

– Baby Names ABCs: Have participants list as many baby names as they can, beginning with A-B-C… trying to complete the entire alphabet with one name per letter. Whoever has the most completed within the time limit wins.

– Baby Items ABCs: Have participants list as many baby items as they can, beginning with A-B-C… trying to complete the entire alphabet with one item per letter. The person with the most completed within the time limit wins.

– Baby Shower Bingo: Perfect game to play while unwrapping gifts. Have participants fill in their bingo cards and mark each square as the corresponding gift is unwrapped. First person to have five squares in a row/column/diagonal wins.

– Remember The Nursery Rhyme: Participants must answer trivia questions based on popular nursery rhymes. The person with the most correct within the time limit wins. (Example: How many bags of wool did the little boy have in Baa Baa Black Sheep = Three)

– Baby Animal Name Game: Participants guess the name for a baby of each animal on a list. The person with the most correct within the time limit wins. (Example: lion = cub vs elephant = calf)

– Baby Trivia: Participants mark their answers to various baby trivia questions. The person with the most correct within the time limit wins. (Example: On average, how many hours does a newborn sleep?)

– Guess The Movie Quote: Participants guess which movie a quote came from on a list of quotes. The person with the most correct within the time limit wins. (Example: “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.” = Dirty Dancing)

– Baby Face Guessing Game: Gather baby pictures of family, friends or celebrities. Have everyone guess who the baby face belongs to. The person with the most correct within the time limit wins.

– Who Has Baby’s Bottle? Hand out a scratch-off card to each guest. Whoever ends up with the milk bottle under the scratched sticker wins.

– Name That Baby Song: Use this playlist of songs that all have to do with “baby”. Think Justin Bieber’s “Baby” or “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice. Play the song and have everyone guess the song title. You can also award bonus points to anyone who correctly identifies the artist. The person with the most correct wins!

Activity Baby Shower Games

– Guess The Baby Food: Guests taste or sniff a variety of baby food flavors and guess which flavor is which. For set-up, place a small dollop of each baby food flavor on a paper plate marked with numbers to help players tell which is which. Hand out plates to each participant with a spoon. Or have small bowls marked with numbers filled with baby food for participants to dip a spoon into for a taste. The person with the most correct wins.

Trio of pureed foods in round containers, each a different color (green, orange, white) with three spoons surrounding the containers and some various sliced vegetables.

– Diaper Changing Challenge: This race can be completed solo or as a team relay. Whoever changes the diaper(s) the quickest, wins! Usually you are changing a babydoll or teddybear’s diaper.

– Matching Baby Socks: Whoever can match baby socks the quickest wins! You can have multiple piles of socks for participants to race to the finish, or one pile that you time participants in turn.

– Baby Bottle Chug: Have each participant fill a baby bottle with their beverage of choice. Then, race to see who can chug their drink the quickest from a baby bottle! Option: Make the hole bigger in the baby bottle silicone top so the drink flows easier. Keep in mind this will damage the top and the bottle cannot be used again.

– Family Feud—Baby Edition: Teams try to guess the most popular answers to questions asked in a survey of Google/ChatGPT. Instead of giving the “right” answer, players must consider what most people might say. For example, if the question is “Name something you might find in a baby’s nursery,” answers might be crib or diapers. Teams take turns guessing, and if they say something not on the list, they get a strike. The team with the most points at the end wins! (Link to solo player edition)

– *Baby Shower Charades: This one gets the whole group participating. No need to pick teams as this is just for fun. Have one person acting out the charade clue and everyone helps guess what their clue is!

*Note: Games marked with an asterisk (*) have no winner and don’t require giving a prize.

Other Baby Shower Games

– My Water Broke: To start, put plastic toy babies in an ice cube tray fill with water, and freeze ahead of time. Next, as the games begin, add a “baby” ice cube to each person’s drink. Whosever ice cube releases their baby first is the winner and shouts “My water broke!” (Note: do not choke on the toy baby in your drink!)

– Count The Marbles: Put your own spin on the classic “how many marbles are in the jar” game! Use a cute clear piggy-bank or an extra large baby bottle as the jar. Mini pacifiers, candies, Hershey’s Kisses, or sprinkles can be used in place of the marbles. Whoever guesses the closest to the actual count in the jar wins!

– *Guess The Due Date: Print a calendar of dates surrounding your due date. Have guests sign their name on the day they think you may give birth. This can be just for fun.* For a betting crowd, make each participant pay $5 for every date they claim. After the baby arrives, split the winnings 50/50 between the winner and the parent(s)-to-be.
